Riverwood Rapids - Important Upcoming Dates & Notes

Hi Rapids Families,

I hope everyone is doing well and having a good week so far. This email will contain a lot of information so I apologize ahead of time but please take the time to read it when you have a moment.

We have A LOT of new families this season and are very close to hitting our cap for the number of swimmers we can handle. Because of the number of new swimmers, we have been receiving a bunch of emails and calls with questions (which is absolutely wonderful that people are engaged and excited) I thought it would be helpful to go ahead and get this information out below, please do keep in mind that our website: rapids.swimtopia.com has a bunch of this information and our schedule can be subscribed to by selecting 'Subscribe' on the page when logged in.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

May 20th NEW DATE/TIME - Parent Informational Meeting from 6:30-7:30pm. If you cannot attend this meeting do not panic...I really like writing emails and will send out a recap :)
May 13th - Practices Begin! High Schoolers and Middle Schoolers will swim from 3-4pm and Elementary School will swim from 4-5pm. **Practices are Monday through Friday unless otherwise noted. This is the same for when they switch to mornings.
May 15th - Augusta Swim Supply will be at practice to allow swimmers to try on suits and purchase the team suit. If you came to the registration event and ordered your suit then, your suit will be available for pick-up on this date.
May 16th & May 17th - NO PRACTICE because of 5th Grade Pool Party and Last Day of School
May 21st - Time Trials Meet! This meet is on Tuesday afternoon and is a practice run meet. The purpose of the meet is for the coaches to get times for the swimmers so they can place them in the right heat in regular season meets AND for our parents & volunteers to get a feel on how a meet is run. Warm-ups are normally at 5pm and meet will start at 6pm. We DO NOT swim another team at this meet, so it is a great way to familiarize yourself with it if you are new. ** I know there are school/event conflicts, etc. with this week since the season was moved up. Please do not panic about it. We will send out instructions on how to opt-out your child prior to the meet so we know which kids we will need to get times for later.
May 27th - NO PRACTICE because of holiday
May 28th - Practice times move to mornings and our first home meet! 12 & up swim from 8am - 9am, 7 to 11s swim from 9am to 10am, and our youngest swimmers swim from 10am - 10:30am **Practices are Monday through Friday mornings unless otherwise noted. More information to come about our first home meet against Springlakes!
May 29th - Afternoon practice option starts from 5-6pm. VERY VERY important: please DO NOT send your child to afternoon practice unless they are unable to attend ALL morning practices that week. This means if they can attend one morning practice they should not come to afternoon practice. The pool is NOT closed for afternoon practices and we only have 3 lanes so they should be reserved ONLY for those swimmers that cannot make any morning practices. Ok if you are still with me...that gets us to June which we will send out communication about later.

Meet FAQ Notes:
Before each meet we will send an email with a list of the volunteers and the jobs they are signed up for. If you can no longer do your job, please find a replacement then email us at [email protected]
Additionally, before each meet we will email out the Heat Sheet for the meet. Please note that this usually is not sent until a couple hours before the meet because changes are normally made the day of at the last minute. A heat sheet is the meets guide of events each swimmer is swimming along with lane assignment and heat they race in. You will need to print your own copy at home as we do not have the resources to print them for all families.
Mission:
Our mission for the summer is to provide a fun environment for all ages and allow them to participate in an organized sport that not only is a great skill to have but a life-saving one! Please keep this in mind as the season progresses and as always let us on the board know if you have any suggestions or feedback.
Stay tuned via email and on our Facebook Page: @riverwoodrapids for additional information to come. Our website has a great FAQ page that if you are new I encourage you to read through it, the page has tips on what to bring to meets, how to mark your kids events on their arms, etc.
